Sustainability & Transparency

Fashion production makes up 10% of humanity's carbon emissions, dries up water sources, and pollutes rivers and streams. Plus, 85% of all textiles go to the dump each year. And washing some types of clothes sends thousands of bits of plastic into the ocean.

Where we stand

At Backwood Studio, we've always created added value to our products by making limited editions which tends to translate into better care of the garment by our customers and a longer lifetime. We are nonetheless, really concerned about our imperfections and are already on the path to improve the Sustainability of our pieces and the social/environmental impact of the production phase.

Creating thrust-worthy partnership takes time, we are currently seeking new partners to improve our products and make sure that they meet the highest social and environmental standards/certifications.

We are advocates of slow-fashion, meaning Buy less, Buy better, Repair, Swap with Friends, Recycle, Buy second-hand, etc.

What you can expect

In the upcoming year

You can expect from us, more Natural/Organic fibers and more timeless designs - Pieces that will last a lifetime and hopefully be passed down to other generations. We are also excited to announce that we will be launching a selection of Made in Montreal pieces very soon. Supporting our local talents, industry and economy while improving the quality and sustainability of our pieces.
